One of the greatest in Brazilian triathlon history.
Based in Santos, Brazil, Carla started in 1996 as a junior, finishing fourth at the Santos International Triathlon. That same year she became junior world champion, in Austria. From there, she spent 14 consecutive years on the Brazilian national team.
She represented Brazil at two Olympic Games, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, and at three Pan American Games. In Winnipeg 1999 she won silver, Brazil’s first women’s medal in Pan American triathlon.
On the world circuit, she was the first Brazilian woman to win a World Cup race, in Rio de Janeiro in 2003, and won again in Mazatlán, Mexico, in 2004. In 2003 she also became Aquathlon world champion.
In Brazil, she built a rare dominance: eight Troféu Brasil de Triathlon titles, with more than 50 stage wins, the all-time record among men and women, eight victories at the Santos International Triathlon and six at the Sesc Triathlon Caiobá, one of the country’s most traditional races. She received the Brazil Olympic Award three times.
